Dear 'ponmanissery,'

Are you asking when a man becomes the "woman's man" and the woman becomes the "man's woman?"  Could you clarify?

What do the Scriptures say about the first marriage?  What do the Scriptures say about divorce?  We have discussed these earlier, especially in connection with the Trichur Assembly.  The Trichur Assembly also made a brief statement about this in Suviseshakan.  I think that was in the April issue of 2012.

Could you tell us when did the first marriage take place?  Is that when Adam and Eve had the first sexual intercourse or was it when the woman was brought to the man?  If we study the Scriptures, the man and woman become one flesh not having sexual intercourse.  Adam made it so clear in his statement in Genesis 2.  He made that statement in the presence of the only witness to that wedding, Jehovah Elohim.  That should settle your question about the time of becoming one flesh.

Shalom Malekim!!!

Where is that old thread about this topic?  Was it deleted by the mods?

Dear 'avoid_legalism,'

I believe that when the previous thread became too personal in nature, the Webmaster deleted it.

We should keep the discussion focused on the Scriptures.  We should avoid personal references.  Please remember that we, as humans, are good in making personal references without mentioning the names of third parties.

Shalom Malekim!!!

Avoid legalism seems to be the most apt answer for this question.

I don’t know the facts of the case. Believers are subject to the laws of the land. Marriage by law becomes effective immediate upon taking oath in the presence of witnesses. Consummation has no relevance. Divorce by law is essential for annulling a legally valid marriage. If the situation for separation has arisen due to unfortunate circumstances beyond human control, it is the duty of the believers in the assembly to help both the parties to arrive at an amicable settlement that pleases our Lord. Avoid legalism and allow the Spirit of God to work while deciding.

However, if there was an element of deception (cheating) in the process of marriage, the marriage stands invalid before the righteousness of God. God is NEVER a witness to any deceitful act whether it is a marriage or any other contract. If there was deceit in the whole affair, it was NOT at all a Christian marriage. There may be an attempt by the unscrupulous persons to circumvent God’s precepts for the advantage of someone who has deceptively obtained a marriage. Believers should avoid interfering in such issues.

Dear 'ponmanissery,'

Let us look from the Scriptural view.  Let us consider your doubt, "MARRIAGE- WHEN THE MARRIAGE IS TAKING PLACE ?"  From Genesis 2 or any other scriptural reference, what could be the answer?  To answer the next doubt, "AT THE TIME OF OATH BY MAN AND WOMAN  OR AFTER OATH  BY BECOMING THEM ONE IN FLESH," could we consider Genesis 2:23-24 as an oath taken at the first marriage that took place with God as the witness?  These will answer your first question, "WHEN THE MARRIAGE IS TAKING PLACE ?"

After understanding these two, we will go into your second question, "IS DIVORCE IS ALLOWED AFTER OATH AND BEFORE BECOMES THEM  ONE IN FLESH ?"

Does God consider a man and woman as husband and wife after betrothal itslef ?

Matthew 1:18,19,20

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother, Mary, that is, having been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of [the] Holy Spirit.

19 But Joseph, her husband, being [a] righteous [man], and unwilling to expose her publicly, purposed to have put her away secretly;

20 but while he pondered on these things, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take to [thee] Mary, thy wife, for that which is begotten in her is of [the] Holy Spirit.
