# 08246 :  Believers' Social Media Activity: Role of Churches

I am raising this topic after seeing something very disturbing over the past several days on Facebook. A very "popular" Bible teacher (who incidentally was active on this Forum nearly a decade ago) is publishing his memoirs, which honestly appear to be an exercise in grating self-glorificateion and hurling of accusations at his rivals. Some of his rivals have also started putting out posts against him, with some comments being in very poor taste.

What these men are doing doesn't concern me, since that is not how believers are supposed to act. However what do churches (specifically the churches these people go to) do? Are they to stand aside and say this is their personal matter? Or does church discipline apply here as a believers' testimony and the church's standing are at stake? This mudslinging is making brethren assemblies appear like a laughing stock.

Commonman and quazi,

There are times when believers do not know that they are influenced by the devil because of the misconstrued understanding of what righteousness and humbleness is. The devil is a parasite. He can infest a believer and the person would not even know that. Though he is saved, he continues to do the wrong thing because he fails to be in the grace of God. His mind is altered and he or she does not realise their folly.  Like this living being that infests ants and cattles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicrocoelium_dendriticum. But unlike the example. We have a cure.

The church is not going to do anything about it. Becasue if it is a leader who is doing it and is quite powerful and has a large following as put in those posts. Then it will go on. The only person who can stand against all these actions is God himself. And for that, we need honest and humble supplications to the Almighty God for His revelation to dawn upon all of them and us.

And therein lies the tragedy. These sorts of slanging matches have been happening for ages in brethren magazines, but the readership of these have been limited. The current affair is literally a war, which ALL can see on  Facebook. I came to know that several utterly distasteful references have been used by both sides, including references to case (syrian christians versus people from "other backgrounds") and attacks on spouses.

These people have literally gone mad.

Well commonman

I do not know if you would agree with me on this. But today, we do not have our spiritual basics right. We completely forget or dilute the first and last two commandments the Lord gave.

Let me ask a simple question. Who should ideally teach a child about Christ and His love? A parent or the Sunday school teacher? Now I have had a lot of justification and reasoning from brethren around saying, that the parents might not be 'well equipped' for this and that is why there is a need for a ‘Sunday School’. By stating that, you have negated:

  1. Ephesians 6:2-4
  2. 2 Timothy 3:16

Do not get me wrong, I am not against a Sunday School or any other ministries. This is just an example to show you the dilution that is in the church and why we are not focussing on the basics given. Therefore, we stumble and soon, fall.

A wise missionary (not mallu. And I think for many of us, fortunately) who spoke to me recently said: “Everyone is an evangelist. Salvation given to mankind is equal to all. When you speak about the Lord, you ideally should NOT say - let me take you to a person who can explain about the Lord. But rather, you should do your part however little. Because His grace and His word has been given to you as well.”

If you are not equipped or if the church is not equipped, or rather if you/church don’t wish to be equipped by meditation and prayer. How do you see anybody put a stop to all of this?

These are all signs of the end. Therefore, your obligation if you consider to have one, is to pray that the Lord enlighten everyone.

Regards,

Joe

Thats what happens when your worldly knowledge blinds you from you spiritual knowledge... i myself have seen these posts. And wondered what are these people trying to prove? One is a PHD at least he should know how social media works and how such posts could be used against the entire Brethren community by the "RIVALS in Christ" to portray a negative image... With great power comes greater responsibilities... that's why Christ never went about proving Himself right against the accusations made at him by the Romans.... Do you see Christ correcting people? you don't have to... cos if you believe that God is seeing your work then to whom are you proving your point? well if it was an average believer doing this then there would be Disciplining by the assembly.. but when top notch elders do it... we have only an option to anonymously discus over it and keep mum... thats how "Traditional" we have become....
