Today If you will hear His voice ..... Ps. 95:7-9 The above are the words of Lord Jehovah which are repeated many times in the scripture showing its relevant significance to us today. The incidence in reference took place around BC 1400 during the journey of Israel from Egypt to the promised land through the desert. It gives us a warning against an evil heart of unbelief. As we read through the historical record of Israel's progress from bondage into liberty, we will very well agree with the Lord in the above passage. They were punished for their rebellion and trial and they wandered through the desert for 40 years until their corpse fell in the desert! Yes, do you say they deserve it? After having seen all the wonderous acts and mighty hands of the almighty God, they doubted Him. Now read the words of St. Paul from 1.Cor. 10:1-12. God marvels: ALL were privileged but MOST OF THEM perished. And he continues in vs. 11: These words are written as warning to us who are living after 3500 years; "to us whom the revenues of the past ages have descended." Do you dare to say, "If I were the one who heard His voice, I would definitely have obeyed." It would have been wonderful if we could identify the frequency of Jesus' voice that oscillated 2000 years back in the land of Israel to convert it into sound for us to hear and obey. That generation was lucky indeed to hear the words from heaven. But we read, they heard but did not listen, they rebelled and tested Him. The Apostle says, these words are written to us. Moreover, do we not hear His voice all around? More louder voice these days - The troubles in the Middle East, wars and aggressions here and there, earthquakes, famines and pestilence, wickedness and adultery on the rise. If you put together all these things, we get the message of Jesus Christ, " Iam near, at the door." If you hear, you must listen, obey and donot rebel against Him. Do you want to hear Him next time and wait till then? Read Ps. 81:11-12. One who turns a dear ear to His voice will only harden His heart. The Lord gives them to the misery of their own follies. But God mourns over their stubbornness. It pangs His heart and He exposes the blessings of those who are willing to listen to His voice. Ps. 81:13-16. He subdues their adversaries and blesses them with physical and spiritual nourishment. These blessings are still open to us.. any one who hears his voice and obeys.. May the Lord bless you.
